Profile

Dan joins Vantage with over three decades of insurance experience and an excitement to innovate. He previously was the Global Chief Underwriting Officer for Political Risk, Credit, and Bond (PRCB) at AXA XL (formerly XL Catlin.) There he grew the existing Political Risk and Trade Credit team into a leading, global provider of Political Risk and Credit Insurance and launched their Commercial Surety Bond business.

Before AXA XL, Dan started Zurich’s Trade Credit and Political Risk underwriting business in 1997. At Zurich, he held several senior executive roles including President of Surety, Credit, and Political Risk; President of Specialty Products; and CEO of Global Corporate in North America.

He began his career at the US Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC)—now known as the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC)—where he started as an intern and rose to serve as Senior Vice President of Insurance and Senior Policy Advisor to the President. Some of his other roles at OPIC included Vice President of Market Development and Chief Information Officer. He was also a two-term president of the International Union of Credit and Investment Insurers—more commonly known as the Berne Union—and recently served on their Management Committee. In 2015, the Berne Union presented him with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dan holds a Master of Arts degree in International Development from American University in Washington, DC and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and African Studies from the State University of New York College at Oswego. He has served on the Board of Advisors to the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science at St. John’s University in Queens and currently serves on the Council of Stewards of the Busch School of Business at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.
