Diana The Chief Counsel for Asia-Pacific, Middle East & Africa at Aon Hewitt


Diana The is Chief Counsel at Aon for the Asia-Pacific, Middle East & Africa regions, joining Aon Hewitt back in January 2014..  She is based in Singapore where she, together with her team of lawyers based in Sydney and Shanghai, oversee legal services in support of Aon’s Retirement Solutions business across 12 countries within APAC.  An important component of Diana's overall role is to provide legal support for the increasingly important investment consulting and advisory, wealth management and financial services-related consulting activities in this region.  Diana also sits on various key committees within the organization, providing strategic advice on legal and regulatory matters to frame key business initiatives.  She was recently appointed as Representative Director for Aon Hewitt Japan Limited in April 2018.  Diana is also part of the small and specialised legal team to support Aon Securities globally, an investment banking arm of Aon providing insurance and reinsurance clients with expert underwriting and placement of new debt and equity issues, financial and strategic advisory services.  

Prior to Aon, Diana was the Head of Legal and Company Secretary at Eastspring Investments (Singapore) Limited, Asia’s asset management arm of part of Prudential plc, where she was responsible for establishing the legal department during her 3 ½ years at Eastspring to support its business throughout Asia.   She was General Counsel in a private equity firm for 3 years prior to that.  Diana was in private practice as an Advocate and Solicitor for over 10 years, appearing in court as well as in arbitrations for a number of contentious commercial disputes, and subsequently as a corporate partner focusing on corporate finance/ general corporate as well as funds-related work, before going in-house into the financial services sector.

Diana has been named in the inaugural Legal 500’s GC Powerlist Southeast Asia 2017, a publication which identifies an array of the most influential and innovative in-house counsel working in the region.  She holds an MBA (Executive Program) from Nanyang Business School, in conjunction with Haas School of Business, University of California (Berkeley) and Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.  She also holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from University of Bristol (United Kingdom).  She was called to the Bar of England and Wales and was admitted as Barrister-at-Law, Middle Temple, United Kingdom.
