With a combined 70 years of experience in law enforcement, Javier Pena and Steve Murphy have gone from police officers in their local communities to two of the world’s most renowned Special Agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration.Assigned in Bogota, Colombia in 1988 and 1991, respectively, Javier and Steve quickly became partners and friends, together tasked with investigating the world’s largest and most notorious drug trafficker; a man who became known as the world’s FIRST narco-terrorist, Pablo Escobar. Working and living with the Colombian National Police, Javier and Steve were active participants in the world’s largest criminal manhunt, which ultimately resulted in the dismantlement of the Medellin Cartel. This was a first in international law enforcement. Many of Javier and Steve’s strategies and innovative ideas are still in use by agents today, and their efforts have earned them numerous awards and recognition, including the honor as the first non-Colombian nationals to be awarded the Distinguished Service Cross by the Colombian National Police.Retired from the DEA, Javier and Steve now travel around the world speaking to all types of audiences about their exploits in Colombia. Their Colombian adventures have been documented and memorialized in many forms, with the most recent being the Netflix hit series, NARCOS, and the National Geographic special, FACING ESCOBAR.
