Insurance insight: How insurers and startups are targeting the growing cyber insurance market

Good news! The insurance industry is starting to recognise the challenges that exist around writing cyber specific policies and, as a result, is working to bridge the gap using data analytics and economic modelling to gain a more accurate risk quantification. This is having a big impact for not only how policies are written, but also who gets to benefit from them. What role is Insurtech playing in this space?

  • Moderator Matthew Grant - Partner, Instech
  • Eelco Ouwerkerk - Industry Director Wholesale & Retail, Aon
  • Sarah Stephens - Senior Partner and Head of Cyber, Content and New Technology Risks, JLT Specialty
  • Sidd Gavirneni - CEO and Co-founder, Zeguro

Presentation: Improving the way we do insurance by using behavioural science

The insurance industry is finally catching on that its customers are humans and not robots. In swoops behavioural economics to provide the techniques needed for understanding the automatic (and often irrational) drivers of consumers' behaviour. Finally we're getting answers to the question - why aren't consumers buying the products they said they wanted in traditional consumer research surveys? As it turns out - context is everything, so live field trials with real insurance customers are the way to reveal how things other than price and information are influencing behaviour. Buying, renewing, disclosing, opening emails, clicking through websites and using wellness platforms and wearables are all examples of consumer behaviours we've been able to change in our 150+ client trials, and we'll share some of our findings with you.

  • Lizzy Lubczanski - Behavioural Research Manager, Swiss Re
