Group Chief Technologist at Aviva
Monique joined Aviva in April 2014, as Group Chief Information Officer, after a successful career at Capital One, British Telecommunications, BellSouth Corporation and American Management Systems. Monique led the disruption of Aviva through increased exposure to the technology ecosystem, alongside running IT Operations globally.
As Group CIO, Monique led the Global Aviva IT team of circa 3,000 employees across the globe, delivering change, service and information security, she revolutionised the way Aviva delivers change, with considerable emphasis on digitising the company, and the insurance sector to rapidly deliver innovative products.
Monique’s focus as Chief Technologist is on firmly embedding Aviva into the technology ecosystem across the globe, working in partnership with Aviva Ventures & Aviva’s Digital Innovation function. Monique is working with VC’s, Accelerators, Technology companies & academic institutes to continue the disruption of Aviva and the insurance sector, seeking out new propositions, ways of working & innovative technology solutions.
Monique previously worked as Chief Technology Officer at Capital One and had responsibility for defining and driving Capital One’s technology strategy, with the overall goal of transforming the company into a digital company, with a leading cost structure. She also led on Information Security and is a recognised leader in this field.
Previous roles at British Telecom and Bell South established her credentials in infrastructure and cyber security.
Monique is a firm advocate of women in technology, and regularly speaks at women’s network events, both internally and externally. Although traditionally IT has been seen as a male-dominated environment, Monique, and many of her close network of senior, professional women, are showing that this is no longer the case.
Monique has faced the challenge that many working women do – juggling a professional career with a family. She uses this experience to coach women in all levels of the organisation, both IT and non-IT leaders as she firmly believes that a company with a diverse workforce is a strong company.
