Charles joined Citi in February 2005 as the Head of Information Security for the North America Consumer organization. As the Global Consumer Group was formed, Charles took on the broader responsibilities for the Consumer business globally.
In early 2010 Charles was asked to take on the role of Citi Global Head of Information Security. In this role, Charles sets Citi’s Information Security strategy and is accountable for all aspects of Citi’s Information Security posture, including Cyber Security and Data Protection, across all lines of businesses, functions and regions.


Charles started his Information Security career at Bell Communications Research in 1986. In 1994, Charles joined JP Morgan as the lead Information Security architect and in between 1994 and 2001 Charles held various roles including Chief Information Risk Officer for JP Morgan and Investment Banker. In 2001, Charles joined Deutsche Bank as the Chief Information Risk Officer. After assignments in both NY and London; Charles left Deutsche Bank in 2004 to form AbsoSecurity, an Information Security Risk Management consulting company working with major financial services firms in NY and London, before being recruited to join Citi in 2005.


Charles has held numerous industry positions including: Chair of the American Bankers Association E-Commerce Policy Committee, Chair of the OpenGroup Security Program Group, Chair of the FIX Security Working Group, Founding Director of the FS/ISAC. Charles is also the former Chairman of the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council (FSSCC) - which works on critical infrastructure protection issues with the US Treasury Department and the Department of Homeland Security – which began in July of 2012.
