Jim Boehm is an Expert Partner in McKinsey’s Risk Practice, based in London, U.K. His focus is digital risk, especially cybersecurity. He is a former U.S. military officer and National Security Project Manager with operational experience in computer network operations and Agile development of cyber analysis systems. Jim primarily serves technology and security organizations in financial institutions including financial market infrastructure, technology companies and the public sector. His recent work has especially focused on embedding cybersecurity and technology risk mitigation in digital and analytics transformations such as digital business builds, DevSecOps, and agile at scale. In addition to client work, he leads research and publishes regularly on cybersecurity and Digital Trust topics and is a trusted advisor to senior executives and Boards on the integration of cybersecurity into business operations.

Jim’s specific areas of expertise include identifying and mitigating risks created and exacerbated by digital transformation, embedding security and risk management mitigation strategies in digital and analytics transformations, performing end-to-end risk-based transformations of Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) and cyber operating modes across three lines of defense, designing and implementing bespoke cybersecurity control (e.g., Security Operations, Identify Access Management) and cyber talent management programs, and preparing for and responding to cyber crisis events. Within McKinsey, Jim serves as the Leader for McKinsey’s Cybersecurity and Digital Risk Practice, Co-chair of the Global Digital and Analytics Risk Committee, Dean of the Global Cyber Learning Program, and is the co-founder of McKinsey’s Digital Trust service line.

Jim has a BS in history (Honors) from the United States Naval Academy, an MA in history from the University of North Florida and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He has been certified as a Scrum Master, PMP, and PMI-ACP.
