Talal Mahmud Regional Head Trade, Financial Crime Compliance Americas at Standard Chartered Bank


Talal is responsible for financial crime compliance (FCC) function at Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) for Trade Finance business in Americas. In addition he looks after the FCC advisory for Corporate Finance, Cash & Securities as well.

He started his banking career with Citibank N.A. under their Management Associate (MA) program and has 18 years of experience across Trade Finance, Treasury Operations, Transaction Banking Sale, Product Management, Corporate Banking Relationship Management, Operational Risk and now FCC. His career has seen him work in South Asia, Middle East and ASEAN before his move to USA in July 2015. In his previous role in Singapore he was one of the three main drafters of SCB’s new Trade AML Target Operating Model. And before that as Global Head of Operational Risk (Transaction Banking) he was member of SCB’s global governance committees for Trade, Commodities, Cash as well as Securities products from 2010 till 2014.

Talal chairs the BAFT Trade Compliance Committee and is also member of BAFT AML KYC Working Group. He has recently been invited to join the Wolfsberg Drafting Group for Trade and ICC Banking Commission Working Group on Policy and Financial Crime.
