Managing Director of PE Fund and Direct Investments at BlackRock

Profile

Mei Friedman, is a Managing Director on BlackRock’s Private Equity Partners investment team. She helps lead deal teams reviewing PE fund investments and direct co-investment opportunities. She also works closely with client coverage teams in business development and separate account client servicing. Additionally, she is serving on the board of American Express Global Business Travel. 

Prior to joining BlackRock Private Equity Partners, Ms. Friedman headed up the Asian investment team at Swiss Re Private Equity Partners based in Hong Kong. Previously, she ran business development in Asia and China private equity investing for Angelo, Gordon & Co. Before moving to Hong Kong, she was a Director at Angelo, Gordon in New York where she wasresponsible for sourcing, negotiating, structuring, and monitoring direct private equity investments in the U.S. She made investments in industries including specialty financing, power and energy, retail and consumer services. She was a member of the Board of Directors for six portfolio companies during the period. She also sat on the board of New York Private Equity Network. Prior to that, Ms. Friedman structured convertible and equity derivative securities at Merrill Lynch’s Equity-Linked Capital Markets. She also spent a few years at Merrill Lynch’s investment banking division covering industrial clients. 

Ms. Friedman graduated Summa Cum Laude from Wellesley College and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa National Honour Society and Omicron Delta Epsilon, International Economics Honour Society. She received an MBA degree from Harvard Business School. She speaks English, a number of Chinese dialects (Mandarin, Shanghainese and Cantonese) and Japanese.
