Derrick Msibi is the Chief Executive of STANLIB Asset Management, the investment arm of the Liberty Group, an insurance company listed on the JSE and a part of the Standard Bank Group. STANLIB is a steward of R566 billion of customer investments in various investment strategies straddling listed and alternative investments. He joined STANLIB in May 2017 from Alexander Forbes Investments (previously Investment Solutions) where he served as Managing Director from January 2009 which was responsible for R350 billion of clients assets and the leading multi-management firm in South Africa. He served as a member of the Executive Committee of Alexander Forbes and represented the company in key industry forums. Prior to his tenure at Alexander Forbes, he worked for Old Mutual from April 1997 to December 2008 in various roles leading to ultimately being an Executive Director after spending 5 years as a member of the Alternatives Unit which was responsible for alternative investment activities for Old Mutual Investment Group.
Derrick has served as a director of various companies in financial services, food, toll roads and diversified investment holdings sectors. He has served as a member and chair of various investment committees dealing with mainly non-public investments.
In light of the need to develop South Africa, Derrick is involved in non-profit entities mainly focused on education and social housing as part of his contribution to nation-building. For relaxation, Derrick is a seasoned ultra-marathon and standard marathon runner over and above looking after his one wife and 4 children.
Derrick is chartered accountant with degrees in finance and accounting at both bachelors, honours and masters level from the University of Cape Town. He is a holder of the Program for Management Development Certificate from Harvard Business School.
