David Coppe has been Director & Head of Energy in the Direct Investment (Private Equity) group at Caisse de dépôt et placement du Quebec (CDPQ) since March 2017. Based in New York, he manages a ca. ~Cdn$2 billion portfolio of energy investments. In his role, Mr. Coppe is also responsible for developing investment strategies, sourcing new investment opportunities and deal execution, in traditional and renewable energy market segments, globally. Mr. Coppe has been active in the energy industry since 1996, in both investment and operations roles. Before joining CDPQ, Mr. Coppe was the Chief Executive Officer of Probe Holdings, Inc., a leading independent provider of downhole measurement technologies for the oil & gas industry, based in Fort Worth, Texas. Earlier, Mr. Coppe was a Partner of Cadent Energy Partners, an energy-focused private equity firm with US$700 under management, which he co-founded in 2003. He was also an investment banker in Goldman Sachs’ energy and power group in London and San Francisco. Prior to business school, he started his career with Schlumberger, working as a field engineer on offshore drilling platforms in the North Sea, Asia and Venezuela.
