James Pitt is a Partner of Lexington Partners, which was founded in 1994 and is the world's largest independent manager of secondary private equity and co-investment funds with over $38 billion in committed capital. He is based in London and is responsible for managing the firm’s direct investments outside the US. James joined Lexington in 2006.
Prior to Lexington, he worked at AXA Private Equity (now Ardian) where he was head of the firm’s London office with responsibility for raising and investing a range of secondary and primary private equity funds. He joined AXA in 2002 from J.H. Whitney, where he was head of European direct private equity investments. Prior to Whitney, he was a Vice President in the Leveraged Finance and M&A groups of Morgan Stanley from 1995 and earlier a strategy consultant at Arthur D. Little. He started his career as a warfare and ship’s diving officer in the Royal Navy.
James has an MBA from INSEAD in France and a BSc (Hons.) in Systems Management from City University, London. He is a Vice Patron and Trustee of the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity.
