Head - EIF Discretionary Portfolio at European Investment Fund – EIF


Joaquin began his career in wealth management / international tax planning at UK’s firm of advisors Levy Gee in Madrid (01-03). He then joined PwC in Luxembourg advising private equity funds on acquisition tax structures and on mergers and acquisition tax (03-06).

After a break for the MBA, Joaquín joined the European Investment Fund, a Luxembourg-based / pan-European, multi-sector Fund-of-Funds where he has led and invested over EUR 1.3bn across Europe in all main sub-asset classes, including venture, growth, small and medium buyout funds, as well as mezzanine and private debt funds, covering primaries, co-investments and secondaries.

Since 2016, Joaquin has lead EIF’s secondaries (buy-side) activities targeting mainly secondareis in growth, buyout and mezzanine funds, as well as funds of funds, investing, among other resources, EIF’s excess treasury.

At EIF, Joaquin has also managed, developed and invested two dedicated fund of funds: Neotec Capital Riesgo, a EUR 183m Spanish based fund-of-funds and co-investment fund sponsored by EIF and CDTI, the tech transfer office of the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, and by Spanish blue-chips, and The Portugal Venture Capital Initiative, a EUR 111m Luxembourg based fund-of-funds to develop the Portuguese private equity market, sponsored by EIF, the Portuguese Treasury and Portuguese blue-chips). And in 2014, he co-developed a EUR 100m direct co-investment program with EIF’s mezzanine fund portfolio, which is now fully invested.
