John C. S. Anderson is Head of Corporate Finance at Manulife. He directs US and Canadian investment teams in the origination, analysis, and management of $ 130 billion of investments in private equity, private placement debt, and public bonds to support the insurance and other products issued by Manulife in Canada and the US.
Mr. Anderson is the principal approving officer for Manulife’s $ 10 billion private equity portfolio in the corporate buyout, infrastructure, and energy midstream equity strategies. Mr. Anderson is also a voting member of Manulife’s global investment committee.
John spent his first 10 years at Manulife leading the firm’s Power & Infrastructure investing team in Boston, which he grew from US$ 10 billion to US$ 17 billion of debt and equity investments. This portfolio includes investments in the US and Europe, with limited investments in Latin America, and includes both corporate and project finance.
Prior to joining Manulife in 2001, Mr. Anderson worked for 10 years in the New York and London offices of JP Morgan Chase, where he led teams that advised on or arranged more than US$ 8 billion in bank and bond market financing. This work included substantial corporate and project finance work, in both developed (US, France, Germany) and developing (Croatia, Turkey, Colombia, Russia) economies.
Before joining the private sector, John served for three years as an Intelligence Officer with The Central Intelligence Agency.
