Profile
Martin is the Head of Tax at SSE plc, the UK listed energy group. He joined SSE from PwC in 2008 and was instrumental in the group achieving Fair Tax Mark accreditation in 2014, SSE being the first FTSE 100 company to achieve accreditation. Martin has experience of UK tax litigation from the First Tier Tribunal through to the Supreme Court, most recently in HMRC v SSE Generation Ltd concerning the availability of capital allowances on a hydroelectric station. Martin is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser and has sat on the Corporate Tax Committee and Scottish Taxes Committee at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. In addition to his position at SSE, he is a Board Member at Revenue Scotland, Scotland’s devolved taxes authority, and chairs their Audit and Risk Committee. Martin also chairs the UK Electricity Industry Tax Forum.
