Rajat Bansal, a senior Indian Revenue Service officer and former Indian Competent Authority is presently working at position of Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (International Taxation), India. In his present job, he is the overall in-charge for administration of all the international taxation and transfer pricing matters in India. He is head of the APA teams handling APA applications and their processing at field level.
He acted as India’s Competent Authority for a period of six years (2014-2019) for treaty negotiations, MAP, APA negotiations and exchange of information in respect of countries in Asia, Australia, Africa and Latin America. He led several important treaty negotiations for India including amendment of Mauritius & Singapore DTAAS. He concluded and signed India’s first bilateral APA with a Japanese taxpayer in 2014. India-Japan MAP relationship won OECD Award for highest resolution in transfer pricing cases for year 2019, where he was the Indian Competent Authority. He was amongst the first Transfer Pricing Officers of India in 2003.
He was closely involved as a co-head in formulating India’s position on all the thirteen BEPS Action Reports. He was Single Point of Contact of India at the Global Forum on Exchange of Information and Tax Transparency, Forum for Harmful Tax Practices, WP2, TIWB Project, BRICS Tax cooperation, CATA, CIAT, SAGATAR, etc.
