Giorgio Donato has been Head of the Banking Supervision 1 Directorate of the Banca d’Italia since October 2021. He is responsible – in compliance with the rules governing the Single Supervisory Mechanism – for the supervision of the Italian significant institutions falling within the remit of the ECB.

Giorgio started his career with the Banca d’Italia, where he fulfilled several roles in the banking supervision and crisis management field, representing the Banca d’Italia in several international supervisory fora, such as the European Central Bank, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, the European Banking Authority.

He currently represents the Banca d’Italia in international committees and working groups and has taken part in international technical cooperation projects.

He has a degree in Economics from the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali (LUISS – Rome).
