Profile
Barthout van Slingelandt has over 25 years of experience in investing, corporate restructuring and general management, in emerging markets, Europe and the US. Since 2011, he is Managing Partner at XSML Capital, an investment fund manager focused on frontier markets in Central and East Africa.
Previously, Barthout held senior management positions in Citibank’s EMEA consumer business, including the turnaround of an SME lending outfit in Poland and heading a pan-European distribution and service operation. At Alvarez & Marsal, he worked on restructurings, carve-outs and sales of businesses in manufacturing and telecoms and co-started A&Ms Benelux operations. Earlier on, he worked with Arthur D Little (strategy consulting) and Rabobank International (legal & work-outs).
Barthout holds a Master’s in Law from Leiden University and an MBA from Columbia Business School where he was a NAF/Fulbright fellow.
