Deputy Chief of Party at DAI Global - USAID Southern Africa Mobilizing Investment

Dr. Hans Balyamujura is currently Deputy Chief of Party for the USAID Southern Africa Mobilizing Investment Project and serves as the technical lead for the project. This is five-year USAID funded project that is focused on increasing investment into the Southern Africa investment ecosystem. Dr Balyamujura is a practiced investment and financing leader with 30 years of professional experience supporting economic growth through increased access to capital and partnerships through roles in the banking sector, agribusiness, and donor-funded projects. Building on a professional background in agricultural economics, Dr. Balyamujura began his career in agribusiness and agricultural economics and has since expanded and evolved his professional skills to become a deeply networked leader enabling economic growth through investment across Southern Africa. He is an experienced manager, with more than 20 years of experience overseeing operations and staff teams of up to 450 staff working in large-scale private sector agribusinesses. His work experience includes all players required for finalizing deals – private sector companies, bank, and non-bank financial institutions, community stakeholders, and government advisory. Through his diverse experience, he has developed and maintained productive relationships with influencers across Southern Africa.

Before joining USAID Mobilizing Investment, Hans served as Finance and Investment Advisor on the Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub project, he led a team that has facilitated approximately $279 million worth of finance and investment transactions, closing, and disbursing approximately $29 million during his two-year incumbency. Leveraging his diverse experience in the private sector, banking, and agribusiness, he has developed and maintained innovative partnerships that raise capital by advising on deal structures, providing training to banks, and assisting in structuring business plans toward loan generation and investment. Dr. Balyamujura is a citizen of South Africa who brings experience and networks from across Southern Africa. He has a PhD in Agricultural Economics.
