Marlene (Carvajal) Hormes is senior executive with over 20 years of investment experience, including over 15 years in emerging markets.
She is Chief Investment Officer and Head of Africa at Annycent Capital, an investment firm focused exclusively on renewable energy assets in emerging markets, primarily in solar, wind, and hydropower generation via equity and equity-like instruments.
In her previous role, Marlene was Managing Director of investment management firm Alphamundi, where she launched and managed the AlphaJiri Investment Fund, a Sub-Saharan Africa-focused private equity/ mezzanine/ debt fund and served on the firm’s two investment committees.
Previously, Marlene was Vice President of one of Europe’s largest development finance institutions (DEG), where in her most recent role, she invested in early-stage companies across Africa. Previous roles at DEG include leading private equity, mezzanine, and project finance transactions in Latin America and other emerging market countries.
Before joining DEG, Marlene was Vice President at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York, responsible for over USD 5 billion of investments in bonds, derivatives, and stocks, primarily in the US telecom and media sectors.
Marlene currently serves as an independent member of the Investment Committee for the African Development Bank’s USD 1.5B Private Sector Enhancement Facility.
Marlene earned the Chartered Financial Analyst Designation in 2005.
